Standards Set for Four Major Tourism Businesses as the Kingdom Prepares to Reopen

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Tourism has set an operating standard for four major tourism businesses in the kingdom as the country prepares to reopen. The Ministry released on Wednesday the “update on the implementation of tourism safety rules and procedures for standard operating procedures along with the new normal path”. The standards set were intended for four major tourism businesses namely, accommodation services, restaurants and canteens, resorts and community, and ecotourism.

Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon has said that the update of tourism safety rules and the SOP was organized in accordance with the necessary measures of the Royal Government and the Ministry of Health to prevent the further spread of Covid-19. During the virtual conference, he says, “Tourism businesses that meet the criteria set out in the Tourism Safety Rules will receive a certificate of business safety against Covid-19." He has added that the safety rule will be a mandatory and an additional condition in applying or renewing tourism business licenses.

The Ministry of Tourism and the relevant ministries and institutions have been working hard to create a roadmap in preparation for the country’s reopening to international tourists after more than a year of suffering due to Covid-19. Minister Khon has added, “When four tourism businesses properly implement tourism safety measures and the standard operating procedures, this will gain the trust of tourists. We will all work together to improving the quality of tourism services in boosting domestic and international tourist.”
